The music streaming platform has partnered with OpenAI to offer a feature that allows podcasters to translate their content. Furthermore, this technology reproduces the style and tone of the speaker’s voice.
A significant number of podcasts are available on Spotify and the creators of these podcasts come from all over the world. Consequently, the language barrier sometimes blocks access to this audio content.
However, this barrier could soon fall with the arrival of a new feature that uses artificial intelligence. Indeed, Spotify has teamed up with Open AI, the company behind ChatGPT, to allow podcasters to translate their content almost instantly.
To be more precise, this technology carries out translation work while reproducing the style and vocal timbre of the podcaster. As explains it Spotify : « a podcast episode originally recorded in English can now be made available in other languages while retaining the speaker’s distinctive vocal characteristics ».
To get a clearer overview of how this technology works, Spotify has shared a demonstration video.
For the moment, the application of this technology only concerns some podcasters American and a translation from English to Spanish. However, Spotify specifies that these podcasts will soon be available in German and French.
Ultimately, Spotify should deploy this technology on a large scale and thus break the language barrier. At least, when it comes to listening to podcasts.
