PARIS – Julien Alfred, the famous Olympic champion over 100 meters from St. Lucia, won her country’s first medal at the Summer Olympics. The 23-year-old indoor world champion clocked a national record of 10.72 seconds in the final at the Stade de France in Paris, ahead of Shakari Richardson (USA/10.87) and Melissa Jefferson (USA/10.92). In the decathlon, Norwegian Markus Roos also unexpectedly won the gold medal.
