Square Enix President Shows His Desire For Blockchain Games Again

While some don’t dare get too wet on the subject of NFT and some blockchain, like Activision-Blizzard, others firmly believe in these practices. This is the case of Yosuke Matsudapresident of Square Enixwho had already declared during the transition to the new year that he observed all this very closely, seeing it as a way for players to invest more in the creation of the games they play. A few months later, its interest has not diminished, despite the numerous failures on this subject from other competitors.

Blockchain is the future according to Square Enix

In a new interview with Yahoo Japanrelayed by VGC, Matsuda is quite pessimistic that traditional games can continue to be enough to keep the publisher financially healthy..

That is why he thinks blockchain can help, with play-to-earn type gamesincluding allowing users to create content for games, while being rewarded:

« In the future, we would like to try our hand at providing “self-contained game content”. Until now, in most games, we delivered the content as a finished product and players played that content. However, there are a number of gamers around the world who want to help make games more interesting, by creating new settings and new ways to play. In the future, we want to use the creativity of these people to create games that will continue to evolve. If, instead of relying on everyone’s goodwill, we can also provide incentives to those who contribute to development using technologies such as blockchain, it is possible that innovative and interesting content can be created from the ideas of each one. »

We can then retort that users can already create new content on games with mods, without the need for blockchain, but Matsuda is obviously looking for there to be an economy behind it, so that the publisher can make all these new creations (and therefore not only to pay the players at the origin of these creations, let’s not be naive).

Everything is still in the thinking stage for the moment if we are to believe these words, but seeing such an interest in blockchain from the president of Square Enix suggests that the publisher could launch very soon in the first tests more concrete (and we hope to be wrong).
