Participants in the reality show inspired by the hit series “Squid Game” want to sue the producers of the show broadcast on Netflix, claiming to have suffered from hypothermia during filming.

The managing director of Express Solicitors, a British law firm, explained on Friday that he had sent letters of claim on behalf of participants who were injured during filming last January in order to obtain compensation.
“Depending on what [les participants] told us, [les producteurs] have pushed the limits of safety in the name of entertainment. Production companies must ensure that health and safety protocols on their broadcasts do not put anyone at risk,” said Daniel Slade.
According to British media, the claims are linked to the filming of the reality show’s first game, itself inspired by the first deadly game faced by people in the South Korean series.
During filming in the United Kingdom, participants had to play a game of “one, two, three, sun” (“Red Light, Green Light” in English), a game in which participants must cross a field, but s immobilize completely when the game master turns around.
However, the filming took place during a cold snap.
Mr. Slade told The Guardian newspaper that one of his clients described “seeing a person faint, then people calling for nurses.” Another person was said to have been so cold that their hand turned purple.
The allegations were rejected by the producers, but Netflix had already acknowledged that three participants had needed medical help, pointed out the specialized media “Deadline”.
The reality show “The Squid Game: The Challenge” appeared on Netflix this week. The series follows the journey of 456 participants who complete various challenges inspired by the series in the hope of getting their hands on a prize pool of US$4.56 million (approximately CAN$6.2 million).
