Sri Lanka Economic Crisis News: Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers resign with immediate effect

Education Minister and Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena told reporters that the ministers had handed over their resignations to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka Crisis News: The political crisis in Sri Lanka, which is facing the worst economic crisis ever. All the ministers in the Sri Lankan cabinet resigned on Sunday night. After the cabinet meeting, the ministers handed over their resignations to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Education Minister and House Leader Dinesh Gunawardena told reporters.

But he did not specify the reason for the coup. The public had come out against the government for mismanaging the financial crisis caused by the depletion of foreign exchange reserves. Political experts say this has put pressure on ministers.

Meanwhile, popular uprisings continue in Sri Lanka in the wake of the financial crisis. Until yesterday evening, there were protest rallies in various places. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Friday, removing more than 600 protesters by truck.

The Sri Lankan government declared a state of emergency last Friday amid rising protests.
