A 24-year-old Kosovar appeared last week before the District Court of St. Gallen. During an argument with a colleague, he beat up a group of four people who were attending a bachelor party. In another altercation, he seriously injured a man.

During the hearing, his defender pleaded for a prison sentence of 37 months and a fine of 400 francs. The Public Ministry, for its part, had requested a prison sentence of 7 years and 6 months, a suspended financial sentence of 50 day-fine at 30 fr. and a fine of 400 fr. All accompanied by an expulsion from Swiss territory for 15 years. It should be noted that during the trial, the defendant asked the judge to expel him from Switzerland so that he could make a new start in Kosovo.

Wish granted

His wish is now granted. The judgment, handed down recently, says the 24-year-old is found guilty of grievous bodily harm, multiple attempted grievous bodily harm, assault, assault and various other misdemeanors. He was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison. He will then be expelled from Switzerland for 15 years. A stationary measure, as initially requested by the Crown in the indictment, is not ordered.

The young man will also have to pay damages and moral reparation to an insurance company as well as to certain victims for an amount of more than 49,000 fr. In addition, the procedural costs, amounting to 80,000 francs, are charged to him. Other payments for moral damages and damages will be treated by civil justice. The accused can still appeal.
