St. George ribbons began to appear on trees in Imanta; not all residents are against it

The editors of Bez Tabu received complaint from Arta that in several places in Imanta St. George ribbons were pinned to trees. Between January and April, she reported them to both the municipal and state police, but the ribbons continued to “decorate” Imanta until May.

Arta provided information about four places where the ribbons can be found, and journalists found five – in the area of Dammes Street and Anninmuizas Boulevard. Media representatives talked to passers-by – they admitted that they had not yet noticed Soviet symbols on the trees. Several people even supported this “decoration” of trees, while the majority was against it.

Political scientist Filip Raevskis notes that this behavior indicates the desire of representatives of the fifth column to confirm their presence in Latvia. He emphasizes that it is everyone’s responsibility to remove such ribbons from trees. At the same time, the police must respond to information provided by citizens.

The political scientist reassures that this is not a huge threat to society or an attack – rather, it is the individual’s goal to assert himself. In turn, police representatives urge citizens to regularly report such and similar cases to a single telephone number 112.
