Heath Dunning was convicted of first degree murder.

Franklin County

After three days of trial, an Illinois man was found guilty of murder Thursday in Franklin County. He had stabbed his passenger to death while driving.

The facts took place late at night on April 15, 2021 on an Illinois highway. Heath Dunning was driving a van, with Dennis “Lance” Martin as a passenger, reports Law&Crime.

The two men had argued over which direction to take. Dennis Martin then tried to stop the vehicle by grabbing the ignition key. The driver had stopped him, grabbed a knife and plunged the blade between his passenger’s ribs, stabbing his heart.

Heath Dunning then pulled over and called for help. But it was too late: his passenger was dead before the arrival of the paramedics.

The American was found guilty of first degree murder. The award will be communicated later.
