GBH Salzburg: State chairman Othmar Danninger brilliantly confirmed with 100 percent

Salzburg (OTS) – The union moves a lot, especially now in times of crisis. It is the organization that fully supports the employees and their interests, that fights for higher wages, better working conditions and functioning framework conditions even in times of crisis and that is always there for its members with advice and support. Othmar Danninger was confirmed as state chairman of the BAU-HOLZ (GBH) union during the state conference with 100 percent.

Since 2020, we have been in changing crisis situations from which people and the economy are suffering. From Covid measures in the workplace that made it possible to continue working in our industries, to thousands of hours of consulting services, to sensible KV agreements in a functioning social partnership, we were always active for our members.

Step in where the federal government fails

After the GBH successfully concluded two-year collective agreements in 2023, a real wage increase will take effect for 18 GBH sectors from May 1, 2024. This results from a wage increase that is guaranteed to be above rolling inflation. The KV increases of between plus 9.5 and 9.9 percent agreed in spring 2023 were also significantly above rolling inflation. Thanks to GBH, it could be ensured as early as spring 2023 that employees in the construction, wood and stone sectors benefit from an effective and sustainable measure in the fight against inflation. In addition, the minimum wage could be increased by up to 20 percent in several collective agreements from May 1, 2023 and is now over 2,600 euros in some areas. Thanks to the GBH, noticeable and sustainable measures against inflation could be taken this spring and the GBH stepped in where the federal government had failed since the beginning of the inflation crisis.

The future is by no means a cushion of peace

Measures against the economic downturn, for better annual employment and for more participation are just as necessary as effective protection for colleagues at work in the face of increasing heat due to climate change.

Our demands and proposed solutions are summarized in the motions that will be discussed and decided in our state and federal conferences as well as at the union conference this fall. They set the course and form the cornerstones of our work in the next five years. I would like to congratulate the entire GBH Salzburg team on their excellent election result. We are prepared for future challenges and will continue to support the concerns of employees.

The GBH management bodies have been newly elected and the colleagues will assume their responsibilities in the interests of the employees.

GBH state chairman Othmar Danninger comes out of his re-election strengthened, thanks for the trust and assures all employees from the BAU-HOLZ sectors that they will continue to work 100 percent for their concerns as part of the team. Danninger also appeals to all employees to make use of their right to vote in the Chamber of Labor elections: “We need a strengthened Chamber of Labor to face the challenges ahead. Only together can we successfully fight for fair wages, good working conditions and a better life for our employees. Let’s get it done!”
