Start of the outdoor season: "50 Things in the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve" provides tips and suggestions

The new brochure of the Vienna Woods Biosphere Park gives many ideas and inspiration for children to discover nature on their own doorstep!

Vienna (OTS) – The Biosphere Park Wienerwald brochure “50 things you must have done before you are 12 ½” offers lots of inspiration and ideas for discovering nature on your own doorstep! At the start of the outdoor season, Climate Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky went on a tour of discovery at the Kinderfreunde-Robinson playground in Vienna’s Biosphere Park district of Döbling together with Biosphere Park Director Andreas Weiß.

You don’t always have to travel to experience adventure and discover new things. The Vienna Woods Biosphere Park offers this on your doorstep, so to speak. In nature, children can gain experience, pursue their urge to discover and research, test and expand their own abilities, sharpen their senses, become active and at the same time come to rest.

“Spending time in and with nature is enormously important in order to develop a feeling for the environment and climate protection,” says Jürgen Czernohorszky, City Councilor for Climate Protection. “In this way, children and young people learn that you can take responsibility on your own doorstep and thus become active yourself!”

“In the time until the children are 12 ½, a foundation stone can be laid for closeness to nature with excursions and experiences. Animals, plants, fungi and habitats that we know, about whose special features we have learned something, stay in our memories and awaken in us an understanding of their needs and the need to protect them,” emphasizes biosphere reserve director Andreas Weiß.

The lovingly illustrated, around 60-page brochure “50 things you must have done before you are 12 ½” contains 50 tips including instructions on how to experience nature with children and have fun and adventure at the same time.

The brochure is available free of charge from the visitor center Lainzer Tiergarten/Lainzer Tor and from the city information – Stadtservice Wien in the Vienna City Hall.

The brochure “50 things you must have done before you are 12 ½” is funded by the State of Vienna and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development as part of the project “Biodiversity in Biosphere Park Districts in Vienna 2020-2022”.
