The incident took place in March 2021.
Rajeev was beaten up when he reached the Thenmala police station with a complaint against his relative regarding the construction of a house allotted under the Life Mission scheme. When he went to the hospital after being beaten, he was handcuffed and arrested from the hospital yard and taken to the station and kept in the sun. Rajeev had recorded the scenes of beating him. However, police officials destroyed the footage from the phone.
However, the matter came to the public when the footage got to the media. CI Vishwambharan, who was beaten up at the station, was earlier suspended from service. However, the officers tried to protect Shalu, who had joined in beating Rajeev.
