Charles-Le Moyne hospital becomes the first health establishment in Canada to be equipped with the Accuray Radixact System, a state-of-the-art radiotherapy device.

Acquired thanks to an investment of nearly $3 million from the Ministry of Health, the equipment can be used to treat the majority of cancers, including those involving the head and neck, skin, breast, thoracic, digestive, gynecological and genito -urinary (including the prostate).

Replacing an older generation device, it is extremely precise, which allows it to irradiate tumors while reducing the effects on healthy tissues. The device thus makes it possible to minimize the collateral effects of treatments.

These are also faster. This therefore helps to increase the number of patients who can be treated daily.

The ministry estimates that the new tool will have a concrete effect on reducing waiting lists in the region.

This is the first of two third generation devices acquired by the Charles-Le Moyne Hospital to replace those of older generations. The next one will be installed towards the end of spring 2024.

“The diagnosis of this terrible disease is an immense burden for patients and their families, but knowing that they will be able to receive the best care during this ordeal, and this, at home, rejoices me enormously” underlined in particular the member for Laporte, Isabelle Poulet.
