Brisbane: People are advised to be cautious due to a cyclone warning on the coasts of the state of Queensland in Australia. Tropical Cyclone Jasper, which is strengthening near the Solomon Islands, is expected to reach the Australian coast next week. Heavy rain and flooding are possible following the storm. There is also a possibility of rough seas and high waves.

Jasper is expected to strengthen over the weekend and is expected to reach the Queensland coast next week.

It is a Category 3 Cyclone which is located 1390 km from Cairns. The Meteorological Center warns that it will intensify and become a Category 5 by Thursday night.

The weather center said it is not possible to predict which areas Hurricane Jasper will affect at this time.

Although the storm is currently off the Queensland coast, the areas most at risk are the tourist areas of Cairns and Port Douglas.

The weather center will provide updates every six hours depending on how strong the winds are. A warning will be issued for that particular area within 48 hours after the cyclone strikes. The Meteorological Center said that people should follow the warnings carefully.
