Giving up the phone is not easy (Louis Jean/AFP)

Modern technology supports progress, fosters innovation, creates new jobs, and more. But like anything, there are pros and cons. The problem lies in the addictive nature of the internet, social media, and email and thus staying in touch, making it difficult to stay away from them. In this context, the “Psychology Today” website presents some tips that contribute to reducing the use of InternetWhich:

1 – free bedroom technology
Remember that you deserve a good night’s sleep, and it helps to achieve this by not using technology in the bedroom. Stop browsing or posting on social media sites means that the brain does not produce the hormone dopamine, which keeps the mind alert and awake. Staying away from screens also means staying away from blue light, which affects the natural sleep cycle. The only exception to the rule is if you are an e-reader.

2- Starting the day without internet for 30 minutes
It is best not to start your day by interacting with the world and what is happening in it. Instead, it’s best to start the day by connecting with yourself. Diary, meditate, or exercise yogaEnjoy fresh air, or simply coffee.

3- End the day without internet for 30 minutes
The same applies to the evening. It’s a good idea to wrap up your day by connecting with yourself. Think positively about your day and remember the details that made you grateful. Meditation can be helpful and you may choose to read a book.

4 – See the people or accounts you follow
What are the things that you like to interact with? Which ones inspire you or make you feel good? What messages do you follow just because they’re famous or because you feel you should? You can choose what you see fit for you. And make sure that you choose people, accounts, or sites that teach you what’s new. And if not, what is the point?

5 – Stop feeling pressured to post
Just because people do it doesn’t mean you have to do the same. You can post anything or nothing. You can share simple details about your day or what inspires you. Do it for yourself, not for others. Most important of everything is to be real.
