If you’re a seasoned PC gamer, Steam may have already offered you to take their monthly survey that determines the most popular configuration to its users. Indeed, the latter is at the heart of all the concerns of gamers, who for the most part want to obtain the best possible performance on their favorite titles. Especially since PCs must be more and more muscular to successfully run recent games.

If, on the contrary, 2022 will be the year when you finally succumb to the temptation to assemble your machine yourself, this survey gives a good idea of what is necessary to obtain correct performance. Accompanying it with various specialized configurations for games, as we have been able to do for God of War Where Battlefield 2042, you will have a very good idea of what to turn to.

The majority of PC gamers don’t have a war machine

First things first: the operating system. The vast majority of players are still on Windows 10 at the end of 2021, an unsurprising figure considering that many computers just aren’t compatible with Windows 11. They are indeed only 15% to use the last version of the OS. On the processor side, Intel won the showdown against AMD with CPUs at the frequency between 2.3 GHz and 2.69 GHz (17%) and between 3.3 GHz and 3.69 GHz (15,6 %).

Many players therefore do not opt for the latest components that break all performance records. This is confirmed especially at the level of graphics cards. In this area, it is the GTX 1060 with 8 GB of VRAM which takes first place. This GPU released several years ago greatly exceeds the more recent models. For comparison, the RTX 3090, the most powerful model, only equips 0.43% of CPs.

The shortage of components is obviously not for nothing. Players struggle to find RTX 3000 in stock for two years now, and most cannot bring themselves to buy them at a high price when they are available. Still, graphics cards sell for almost twice as much as the list price by the manufacturer.
