Steelers Look to Rebound Against Bengals in Key Division Clash

The Steelers (8-3) are hoping to recapture the momentum they had before a tough loss to the Browns, while the Bengals (4-7), are facing a must-win situation

After suffering a setback in a snowy, hard-fought game against the Browns on November 21, the Steelers look to bounce back against their division rivals, the Bengals, on Sunday.

A win for the Steelers, currently leading the American Association North Division, would keep them on track for a playoff spot. The Bengals, meanwhile, are facing a critical juncture in their season. With a 4-7 record, they need a victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.

“It’s a huge game — like all games until the end — especially since it’s a sectional game against the Bengals, our rivals,” Steelers linebacker Alex Highsmith said. Highsmith is hoping to return to action after missing two games with an ankle injury.

”It’s our first game against them this year, but just to bounce back from a loss will be huge for us,” Highsmith added.

The Steelers boast a half-game lead over the Baltimore Ravens in the division. They will face the Ravens again just before Christmas, having recorded an 18-16 victory against them on November 17.

While Cincinnati is struggling, some players are still putting up impressive numbers. Before the 13e week of activities, quarterback Joe Burrow was among the league leaders in completed passes (274), passing yards (3,028), and touchdown passes (27). Despite those personal statistics, Burrow expressed his frustration with the team’s inability to seal wins.

“It’s December football,” Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said. “Now it means something. Regardless of our current record, we have to play our best football in December. Now more than ever, we will need all our players. And they understand.”

Receiver Ja’Marr Chase leads the league with 1,056 yards, 481 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns. Trey Hendrickson is first with 11.5 sacks.

For the Bengals, a loss to the Steelers would likely dash their hopes of making the playoffs for the first time since 2022. The Ohio club has shown the ability to compete but has struggled to hold onto leads in recent games, losing three out of their last four.

**Jane:**⁣ Thanks for ⁣having me! It was a real slugfest against‍ the Browns, and you could tell the snow and⁣ conditions really played a factor. But the⁢ Steelers [are currently leading the American Association North Division] [[ … ]], so they have a lot to fight for. This is a must-win ⁢for the ‍Bengals, but the Steelers have that extra motivation to solidify their play-off position.

**Host:** And⁣ speaking of the Bengals, they’ve had a bit of a rough season. What do they need to do ⁤this week to pull‍ off an upset?

**Jane:** The Bengals need to find a way ⁤to generate more offensive momentum. We’ve seen flashes of ‍brilliance from Joe Burrow, but they need to find consistency. Defensively, they have to contain the run game and make Mason Rudolph uncomfortable. It’s a tall order against a strong Steelers team, but they’re capable of⁣ it if they execute.

**Host:** This is about to be a seriously exciting game! Thanks for giving us your insights, Jane.

**Jane:** My pleasure! It should be a close one.
