Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas, Sunday (14/4), became the Monte Carlo Masters champion for the third time, after beating Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud with a score of 6-1, 6-4 in the final match.

Tsitsipas, previously, won the Monte Carlo Masters in 2021 and 2022.

Thanks to this title at the Monte Carlo Masters, Tsitsipas will return to the top 10 in the ATP world rankings on Monday (15/4).

In the final match, which took place at Rainier III Field, Monaco, Tsitsipas was able to play freely and pressure Ruud with his forehand shots.

In 1 hour 37 minutes, Tsitsipas finished Ruud, making him the fifth player to win three or more Monte Carlo Masters titles, following Rafael Nadal, Bjorn Borg, Thomas Muster and Illie Nastase.

“It’s very difficult, so to be able to be on the podium again, winning tournaments, it feels amazing. I can’t thank my family and friends enough, and to God, if he exists,” said Tsitsipas as quoted from the official ATP website.

After sealing the first set with his second set point, Tsitsipas saved a break point in his opening service game of the second with a thunderous forehand to take control.

Ruud struggled to find consistency with his forehand in the first set, and he often hit the ball too hard.

While Ruud improved his game in the second set, he still couldn’t match Tsitsipas.

In the seventh game, Tsitsipas held three break points before regaining control, and then broke Ruud’s serve to seal the win. (Ant/Z-1)
