AUBURN HILLS, Michigan, USA (AP) — Automaker Stellantis announced Wednesday it was recalling more than 32,000 Jeep Wrangler hybrid SUVs due to a possible fire risk.

As part of what the company described as a routine review of customer information, Stellantis determined that eight of the hybrid Wranglers had caught fire while parked and turned off. Six of them were charging when the fires started. The company said it believes the incidents did not cause any injuries.

The recall affects 2021 through 2024 model years of Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs. The others have been rated as safe by Stellantis, which has its US headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Cars called into workshops can continue to circulate until repaired, but Stellantis recommends parking them away from buildings and not charging them until then. The repair involves either resetting or updating your software, or replacing the battery.

Stellantis plans to contact the owners of the vans that need to be repaired.
