STM’s Lack of Information Leaves Barge Users Waiting for Hours

The users of the barge had to wait two hours this Tuesday evening in the maritime stations of Dzaoudzi and Mamoudzou. In question, a barge breakdown. But what has most exasperated people is the lack of information from the STM, Mayotte’s maritime service.

Between the tears of all children and the fatigue of the workers coming from work, there are hundreds of passengers crammed into the cramped ferry terminal of Dzaoudzi Quai Issoufali who were impatient to get to the mainland.

Everyone had prepared for the normal crossing at 8 p.m. The usual preparations have been made. Two wheels and vehicles including an ambulance with an emergency boarded.

As the passengers were preparing to board, the bad news came. Breakdown of the barge. No further information was released and another ship arrived two hours later, infuriating the hundreds of passengers.

And during the crossing, the questions abounded. Two hours without informing users, what is more at night, while two brand new ships, flagships of the maritime services department were inaugurated last week. A dozen ships anchored off the bay of Dzaoudzi, is it normal to let users hang out at night without worrying about the fate of those who have destinations too far away.

At the Mamoudzou ferry terminal, it was worse. No signal on the horizon and no indication for delays. They were able to reach the small land around 11 p.m. with a lot of bitterness.
