Wall Street – US stocks
Stocks in the United States closed higher at the end of trading on Thursday, as indexes were led to the upside, and gains were recorded in the technology, consumer services and health services sectors.
At the end of trading in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed higher at 0.55%, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index rose by 0.75% and the Nasdaq index climbed by 1.13%.
Among the leading stocks today in the Dow Jones Industrial Average was Nike Inc. (NYSE: NKE), which rose by 2.80%, or 3.03 points, and closed at 111.36. On the other hand, the share of Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) increased by 1.68%, or 0.81 points, and closed at 48.99, while the share of Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.46%, or 2.58 points, at 179.08 at the close of the session.
As for the worst performer at the end of the day’s trading, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS) closed down by 0.51%, or 1.84 points, and traded at 358.08 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 0.42% or 0.65 points to end at 154.12 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) closed down 0.28% or 0.14 points to 50.56.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index was recorded by a stock SVB Financial Gro (NASDAQ:SIVB), which rose by 6.89% at a price of 222.64, NVIDIA Group (NASDAQ:NVDA) also continued its rise at 6.51% and closed at 171.69 levels, as well as shares of Ceridian HCM Holding Inc (NYSE:CDAY) rose by 5.05% and closed at 65.83.
Among the stocks that performed the worst today, we mention Lincoln National Corp (NYSE:LNC), which fell by 10.86% and closed its session at a price of 31.45, per share. Avery Dennison Corp (NYSE:AVY), which lost 6.54% to 179.22, and Aptiv PLC (NYSE:APTV), which weakened by 4.47% and closed at 93.42 for the day’s session on the stock exchange.
On the other hand, the best performance in the Nasdaq index was recorded by Farfairs BV (NASDAQ: PHVS), which rose by 356.57%, at a price of 11.46, Rent the Runway Inc (NASDAQ:RENT) also continued its rise at 74.26% and closed at 2.37 levels, as did the stock. Qutoutiao Inc (NASDAQ:QTT) rose to 57.62% and ended its trading at a price of 0.84.
Among the stocks that performed the worst today, we mention the stock of Eiger Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:EIGR), which fell by 69.53% and closed its session at a price of 1.17, per share. Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RLMD), which lost 47.84% at a price of 2.17, and Design Therapeutics (NASDAQ:DSGN), which weakened by 33.33% and closed at a price of 8.46 today’s session on the stock exchange.
The number of gainers exceeded the number of shares that closed lower in trading on the New York Stock Exchange with 1728 compared to 1347, while 121 remained unchanged. As for the Nasdaq stock exchange, 2140 of the stocks strengthened their position and 1566 retreated, while 204 of the stocks maintained their value.
Shares in Lincoln National Corp (NYSE:LNC) fell to a record low in 52 weeks, dropping 10.86%, or 3.83 points, to 31.45. Shares in Eiger Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:EIGR) fell to a record low, losing 69.53%, or 2.67 points, at a price of 1.17. Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RLMD) stock fell to a record low, continuing its decline by 47.84%, or 1.99 points, at a price of 2.17. Shares in Design Therapeutics (NASDAQ: DSGN) fell to an all-time low, dropping 33.33%, or 4.23 points, at 8.46.
500 Volatility Index, which measures the implied standard deviation of options on the S&P 500 Index, traded 1.72% lower, closing at 22.29.
Gold futures for February delivery rose 0.17%, or 3.10%, and closed at $1,801.10 an ounce. As for the trading of other commodities, the WTI crude oil futures contract for January delivery fell 0.44%, or 0.32 points, and reached a price of $71.69 per barrel, while the February contract for Brent oil contracts decreased by 1.13%, or 0.87 points, and closed at $76.30 per barrel.
The EUR/USD pair added 0.50% and traded at 1.06 levels, while the USD/JPY pair continued its rise by 0.01%, reaching 136.62 levels.
