The number of asylum applications fell by 52% compared to the previous year

Vienna (OTS) – “The Asylum Brake is a flagship project and a complete success. The current figures confirm the excellent results: the number of asylum applications has fallen by 52% compared to the previous year and is still falling steadily. The international comparison also proves that Interior Minister Gerhard Karner has taken the best measures,” says the General Secretary and security spokesman for the People’s Party, Christian Stocker.

“The balance sheet shows what distinguishes factual work from populist demands á la Herbert Kickl. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner has managed to reduce the number of asylum applications, while Kickl has failed as interior minister at all levels. And now the blue FPÖ chairman wants to entice the Austrian population with false promises and ever more radical slogans. Herbert Kickl has thus finally turned out to be a security risk for Austria”, Stocker continues, who finally emphasizes: “What is needed now is an asylum brake at European level. The People’s Party has been campaigning for a fundamental reform of the European asylum system for years. We will continue to do everything we can to ensure that real EU external border protection is implemented. Because strong borders to the outside mean freedom inside. Until this EU external border protection does not exist, we will continue to tighten our national measures to prevent illegal migration to Austria finish.”
