Stocker on the ban on combustion engines: “People’s party finally detects movement on the part of the EU Commission”

The EU Commission is submitting the proposal to continue to allow combustion engines if they are operated with e-fuels

Vienna (OTS) “As a people’s party, we are finally seeing movement on the part of the EU Commission. The People’s Party rightly judged the originally planned ban on new registrations of combustion engines to be wrong. Sustainable, renewable fuels such as e-fuels are an important part of the mobility transition mosaic. The future of mobility will consist in the fact that all forms of technology and drive systems that contribute to the decarbonisation of the traffic and transport sector are also developed. This fundamental attitude of the People’s Party to climate protection with common sense now seems to have finally arrived at the EU Commission. It is clear to us: Green combustion engines must also be allowed in the future,” says the General Secretary of the People’s Party, Christian Stocker, who refers to the Commission’s proposal, which would allow combustion engines to be newly registered, provided that it is ensured that the cars are operated with e-fuels become.

Stocker further emphasizes: “Climate protection must also be done with common sense – if technology can make a contribution to reducing CO2 emissions, then this opportunity must also be used. As a logical consequence, this means that a policy that is limited to electromobility is not enough. Openness to technology is the order of the day. The People’s Party will continue to work to ensure that real and honest climate protection is on the agenda and that the ideology-driven symbolic politics is stopped.”
