Stomach cancer is a silent killer; Know the causes and symptoms

Gastric cancer is one of the most commonly reported cancers in the world. About 24,000 cases of stomach cancer are diagnosed annually in the United States alone. The problem with this cancer is that symptoms do not appear until the disease has spread to other organs. That is what makes stomach cancer so dangerous. If the disease is detected late, this cancer cannot be cured. The survival rate is 90% if diagnosed at an early stage and only 3% if diagnosed at a late stage.

How to prevent stomach cancer?

The best way to detect early is to recognize the warning signs. According to the American Cancer Society, the most common symptoms of stomach cancer include:

Heartburn- This is an important symptom of stomach cancer. Often seen as gastrable, this symptom is often overlooked.

Indigestion- This is another symptom of stomach cancer. Seek medical attention if the problem persists for a long time.

Abdominal pain and discomfort- If abdominal pain and discomfort are known at continuous intervals then further investigation is needed in this regard.

Vomiting and nausea, diarrhea and constipation – if you experience all three frequently, do not delay in seeing a specialist.

Bloating after eating – Do not take the symptom of bloating and difficulty breathing after eating lightly.

Fatigue- Fatigue, a major symptom of many other ailments, is also experienced by gastric cancer patients.

Bleeding (blood in the stool or vomiting blood) – This symptom should also not be taken seriously.

Note: If you experience any of the above symptoms, be sure to consult your doctor as soon as possible. May be referred to a gastroenterologist for further testing.
