Trolleybus traffic was paralyzed

A major incident occurred in Liefering near the Europark in Salzburg when a tree fell on a trolleybus. According to initial reports, the 55-year-old bus driver was slightly injured; according to the police, passengers on the bus were not harmed. There was significant damage to the trolleybus and the overhead lines. At around 11 p.m. all trolleybus traffic in Salzburg had to be stopped.

Local railway damaged

In Bürmoos, the local train had to be evacuated due to fallen trees and line damage, but no passengers were injured. The section of the S1 between Lamprechtshausen and Bergheim and the S10 between St. Pantaleon and Bürmoos are currently closed. A replacement rail service was set up.

Traffic jam caused by fallen trees

Fallen trees caused significant traffic jams on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) on Friday morning, as the ÖAMTC informed the APA. In the direction of Villach, several spruce trees fell onto the right-hand lane at kilometer 4, which now have to be cleared away, according to a spokeswoman. There was a significant backlog that reached as far as the western motorway (A1).

Flights canceled and redirected to Linz

Air traffic was also affected by the strong wind. Two planes coming from Hamburg and Düsseldorf were diverted to Linz in the evening because of the strong cross winds at Salzburg Airport, and two other connections were canceled, airport spokesman Alexander Klaus told APA.

Weather warning remains in effect

The weather warning from the country’s civil protection agency will remain in effect on Friday and Saturday. Further storms, snow and rain are expected. People should avoid forests and parks, avoid skiing and snowshoe tours away from secured pistes, and adapt their driving style to the conditions in traffic.
