A powerful storm front moved across the northern part of Salzburg on Wednesday night. It was an intense night for the fire brigades. And the next storm front is approaching.
According to the state warning center, there were about 300 operations. 35 fire brigades – the professional fire brigade in the city of Salzburg and other volunteer fire brigades – had to mobilize around 800 people to repair the damage. The Flachgau and the city of Salzburg were mainly affected. Numerous storm operations were also reported from neighboring Upper Austria. In Munderfing, lightning even caused a fire in the sports club’s clubhouse, which the fire brigade put out.
The storm broke out around one o’clock in the morning and reached peaks of up to 136 km/h on the Kolomansberg. The strong gusts of wind knocked down trees, which in turn fell and blocked roads. This is what happened in the Flachgau community of Nussdorf. The local fire brigade reported: “19 storm operations in the entire municipal area. All federal, state and municipal roads were affected. All vehicles from Nussdorf and Pinswag were in action.”
