Straka in the top field at the PGA tournament in Jackson

After a good opening round at the Sanderson Farms Championship, golfer Sepp Straka has played his way into the top ranks of the PGA Tour. The 29-year-old Austrian hit 69 shots on the par-72 course in Jackson/Mississippi on Thursday and was thus in the top ten in the intermediate ranking. The native of Vienna even managed an eagle on the third hole, plus five birdies with four bogeys.

Matthias Schwab, on the other hand, failed at the start, the Styrian returned to the clubhouse with a round of 75 (three over par) and was thus far behind in the ranking.

Lukas Nemecz, meanwhile, is in 40th place at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, following an opening round of 68 with four under par. Nemecz remains on course for World Tour eligibility for the coming season. Frenchman Romain Langasque is in the lead, equalizing the course record with a 61 (eleven under par).
