Stranded in Paradise: British Couple and Baby Trapped in Grenada after ‘Beach Birth’ Mishap

A British woman who traveled 6,000km to give birth on a beach has been left stranded. The woman gave birth to the baby on the Caribbean coast of Grenada. The baby is now four months old. 38-year-old Yulia Gurshi and her husband Clive are trapped here with a four-month-old baby.

They might not go back because they might not register the birth of the baby or apply for a passport. The couple left Tameside, Manchester and came to Rodney Bay, St Lucia, to give birth to their baby by natural birth on the beach. It was Yulia’s biggest dream to give birth to her baby like that.

On April 23, 2023, Yulia will give birth to her daughter Luisa. However, they were unable to go back later. When I went to a hospital to register the birth, the hospital refused to register the birth saying that 24 hours had passed. When they reached the immigration office, the question was, what is the proof that the child is theirs? When he reached the passport office, there was no proof of where the child was born. With that, Yulia, Clive and the baby are stuck here.

Now the UK High Commission is saying that a DNA test is required. The family is awaiting the results. Later, they hope that the child will get a passport and be able to go back.
