Noah Schnapp’s storyline in “Stranger Things” helped him come out as gay.
The 18-year-old actor came out publicly earlier this year following Will Byers – his character on the hit Netflix series – did the same.
Speaking to Variety ahead of the actors’ strike, Noah explained, “Once I fully accepted Will’s homosexuality, I started accepting it myself at an exponential rate. I would be in a Completely different situation if I didn’t have Will, which helped me accept myself. I think if I had never played that character, I would probably still be closed off.”
Noah also revealed that Millie Bobby Brown – his ‘Stranger Things’ co-star – has been hugely supportive of him over the past few months.
The actor said, “I kept trying to do it in person with her, and it was too difficult. So I FaceTimed her one day in the middle of a party and said: ‘Millie, I’m gay.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, Schnapper! You finally told me!”
Noah came out in a TikTok video in January.
The teenager shared the news with his fans, following breaking the news to friends and family.
He wrote at the time: “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay following being scared for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know ‘”.
