Since the controversy over the non-purchase of French Rafales planes more than two years ago, no member of the Swiss government has made the trip to France, as part of a high-level visit. The counters were reset to zero on Friday: Federal Councilor Karin Keller-Sutter and the French Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Bruno Le Maire, spoke in Paris.

During this half-hour of discussions, the two ministers looked at the stability of the financial markets, after the crisis experienced by Credit Suisse at the start of the year. More EU-specific themes such as market access for financial service providers from third countries were also discussed. The question of the entry into force of the agreement on the taxation of cross-border workers, in particular those who carry out their tasks by teleworking, was also addressed.

At a press conference, Karin Keller-Sutter said she had arranged to meet her counterpart in Switzerland “next year”.

Switzerland and France maintain very close economic ties. Indeed, France is Switzerland’s fifth trading partner and, in 2022, trade in goods and services between the two countries will amount to some 60 billion francs. More than 1,300 Swiss companies are active on French territory and employ around 300,000 people.
