The Ministry of Health announced that Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) will be reinforcedas part of the strategy to eliminate cervical cancer and other diseases associated with this disease.
The strategy seeks to reinforce mass vaccination aimed at girls, boys and adolescents between 9 and 17 years.
“Cancer caused by HPV is preventable. We have a safe, effective vaccine and free. Vaccinating our children and adolescents is an act of collective responsibility and life protection, ”said Health Minister Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo.

Said that eThis initiative is part of the national goal to eradicate cervical cancer by 2030in line with the National Development Plan 2022–2026 and the recommendations of the World Health Organization.
“Cervical cancer is the most frequent room in women worldwide And one of the main causes of death from female cancer in Colombia, where it occupies the third place in incidence and the fourth in mortality, ”he said.
According to the Ministry of Health, three fundamental pillars are contemplated in the approach: vaccination, screening and timely treatment.
He said that the country has delineated three essential pillars in its strategy to eradicate cancer associated with HPV:
Mass vaccination: Vaccinated 90% of girls, boys and adolescents from 9 to 17 years.
Periodic sieves: Cytologies in women aged 25 to 29 and DNA tests in women from 30 to 65 years.

Timely treatment: Guaranteed access to treatment for women with injuries detected in sieves.
Among the key actions to strengthen HPV protection:
New vaccination scheme: Since 2024, a single dose for healthy minors is applied, and two doses for immunosuppressed, according to the recommendations of the National Committee for Immunization Practices (CNPI).
Expansion of the vaccination network: More than 3,000 vaccination points throughout the country have biological available for intensive days and active search in school and non -school population.
Simplification of the process: Resolution 309, 2025 eliminates the requirement of written informed consent, allowing a more agile implementation in the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI).
Participation in the ‘Abrame’ Alliance: Colombia joins this regional initiative led by the Colombian League against cancer and more than 80 organizations to increase vaccination coverage.
National Intensification Plan 2025: Between July and December there are massive days, micro territorial planning, actions in vulnerable rural and urban areas, and monthly monitoring of advances.
“The Ministry makes an urgent call to fathers, mothers and caregivers to lead their sons and daughters for free between 9 and 17 years. HPV vaccine not only prevents infections, but protects several types of cancerincluding the cervix, penis, anus and throat, ”he said.
