Strong earthquake in Iran injures more than 300 people

At least 3 people were killed, over 300 injured and many houses destroyed in the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck early on January 29 (Vietnam time) in the border area between Iran. and Turkey.

According to Iran’s IRNA news agency, the impact of the quake on buildings in the country’s Khoy city near the epicenter was quite high.

Rescue teams have been deployed to the earthquake area and hospitals are being put on standby. The local emergency agency official said heavy snowfall in the disaster area, very low temperatures (at freezing) and power outages in many places had significantly affected rescue efforts.
