At least six warehouses in the Iquique Free Trade Zone (Zofri) were affected by a structural fire that started during the night of this Sunday.

According to what was reported by a Radio Bío Bío team at the scene, the flames reached shops located in the sector called “walled enclosure”, in the heart of the Iquique Free Trade Zone.

Specifically, the affected sheds range from 57 to 61 in block 9 of Zofri. A video sent by an auditor shows the risky work of volunteer firefighters, who are forced to retreat due to the magnitude of the flames and the imminent risk of trying to fight them.

In dialogue with Radio Bío Bío, the first commander of the Iquique Fire Department, Jorge Medina, provided details of the emergency that occurred at gate 6.

“There is fire in free combustion. “They are important structures and with a large amount of fuel load inside, we are talking about fabrics,”

The 10 companies of the Iquique Fire Department are working at the site and the third fire alarm was declared. This made it possible to manage the support of the Alto Hospicio Fire Department and the Santa Rosa de Huantajaya Fire Department.

At 12:12 a.m. this Monday, the first commander of the Iquique Fire Department, Jorge Medina, spoke again with La Radio to report that the fire was “contained,” but not controlled.
