About an hour later, the People’s Power announced that it would accept the mediation proposal of National Assembly Speaker Park Byeong-seok.
“As a result of intense discussion on the arbitration proposal of the Speaker of the National Assembly, our party has decided to accept the arbitration proposal from the Chairman.”
At this time, 11:33 a.m., an hour ahead of the Democratic Party, an agreement was reached.
There was no disagreement.
“There were a lot of concerns, but in the end, I listened to my explanation and generally agreed.”
Nevertheless, it seems that the reason why such a rapid change of attitude was possible was a cold perception of reality.
An official from the People’s Power said, “In a situation where the Democrats can handle bills as they wish, they cannot rely on public opinion alone.”
In fact, floor leader Kwon Seong-dong pointed out the quasi-interlocking proportional representation system and the Airborne Act, and recalled that the struggle without strategic negotiations did not prevent any evil laws.
He added that efforts were made to create suboptimal alternatives to prevent the worst outcome.
However, Rep. Kim Do-eup protested that what the people’s power accepted was an exit plan from the Democratic Party, which was driven to the brink of pardon.
Choi Ji-hyeon, senior deputy spokesperson for the Presidential Transition Committee, said, “The transition committee respects the fact that the arbitration proposal was accepted in the House of Representatives.”
