Those are food often seen as comforting, which are good for morale when it is at half mast, and yet… According to one study published in the American scientific journal PNASdeep-fried foods would potentially have negative impacts on the Mental Healthrelay RTL.

To reach such a conclusion, the scientists followed 140,728 people for 11.3 years. They noticed that the subjects having a regular consumption of fried foods and in particular of fries have a 12% higher risk of anxiety and a risk of depression 7% higher.

And it is young men in particular who would be particularly affected. In their study, the scientists emphasize “the importance of reducing the consumption of fried foods for mental health”.

But these conclusions should be qualified according to other specialists. Asked by CNN, a doctor assured that the study “might as well go the other way: people suffering from anxiety or depression are turning more and more often to comfort foods to find a semblance of relief”. He adds that health, both physical and mental, is globally influenced by several elements including the quality of diet.
