The National Penitentiary Institute (COMMIT) reported this Tuesday, May 24, that Juan Antonio Enríquez García, who was serving preventive detention for kidnapping and abusing a three-year-old minor, in the José Leonardo Ortiz district, in Chiclayo (Lambayeque), was found dead in his cell inside the Challapalca prison (Tacna).
Through a statement, the INPE detailed that today at 9:50 am the security personnel of the Challapalca penitentiary center found him held by the neck with a white cloth, which was attached to one of the ends of the bars of his cell.

“Immediately, the health personnel of the prison were informed which verified that the inmate did not present vital signs, proceeding the penitentiary authorities to isolate the environment”says the statement.
Likewise, INPE recalled that Juan Antonio Enríquez was transferred to the Challapalca prison on April 20 for security measures, where he would serve the nine months of preventive detention ordered by the José Leonardo Ortiz Court.

“He remained isolated from the prison population in an environment of meditation and observation and was permanently guarded by security personnel,” it reads.
The case
The kidnapping of the girl occurred on Tuesday, April 12, when she was at the corner of La Despensa and Goicochea streets, in the José Leonardo Ortiz district, and was recorded on a video surveillance camera. In these images, it is possible to see how the minor is carried in the arms of a man and puts her in the passenger seat of a vehicle.
Later, on Wednesday, April 13, the Police captured Juan Antonio Enríquez García and during the interrogation he admitted that he had kidnapped the minor. Next, he gave information on her whereabouts and the authorities were able to find her on the second floor of a house, which apparently would be the house of the kidnapper’s mother.
