The challenge is taken up, for the organizers of the 28th federal festival of drums and fifes, which was held this weekend in Savièse. 2,650 musicians from all over Switzerland made the trip. 20,000 visitors also attended the various performances.
This is the first time that the event has been organized outside major urban centers, in a town that is not served by a railway line. And Savièse believes that it has fulfilled its objectives.
In particular, it was necessary to set up a shuttle system between Sion and St-Germain, with around forty buses which circulated non-stop throughout the day on Sunday. It was also necessary to accommodate more than 1,500 people in collective accommodation near the festival site. “All the system put in place worked well,” said the president of the organizing committee Julien Dubuis.
But, to welcome and supervise musicians and spectators, it was necessary to mobilize a large number of volunteers. They were thus 600 to get their hands dirty this weekend in Savièse.
