A funny surprise at nightfall. On Saturday, the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) coordinated a test firing of an M51 missile without a military charge from its site in Biscarrosse, in Landes. This test was conclusive, welcomed the DGA on X (formerly Twitter).
“First successful test firing of the M51.3 strategic ballistic missile,” also rejoiced the Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu, currently visiting Qatar. “This development perpetuates the credibility of our nuclear deterrence and demonstrates the excellence of our launcher sector.”
The missile fell hundreds of kilometers from the coast
However, it seems that the inhabitants of the region were not warned of this military exercise, bright and very noisy. From Landes to Gironde, many people questioned the origin of this phenomenon in the sky on social networks. Spanish X users even spoke of a “meteorite fall”.
“The M51 missile was monitored throughout its flight phase by the DGA Missile Testing center of expertise, the Hourtin & Quimper stations, the Le Monge test and measurement building,” specifies the Management general armament on X. “The fallout zone is located several hundred kilometers from any coast.”
