Sudan Doctors Syndicate Urges International Aid for Hospitals and Health Facilities in Conflict Areas

The “Sudan Doctors Syndicate” launched an urgent appeal to international and regional humanitarian organizations and health bodies to provide aid and provide medical supplies to all hospitals and health facilities in Khartoum and the areas of clashes between the army forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the various states.

Where the union called on organizations and bodies to exert pressure to oblige the two parties to the conflict to stop the fighting, and to provide safe passages for civilians, ambulances, and medical personnel, and called on all medical personnel to support, given the presence of large numbers of injured and critical cases that require urgent surgical intervention.

For his part, the spokesman for the Sudanese Red Crescent, Osama Abu Bakr Othman, said that the number of injured exceeds the capacity of hospitals, adding that all hospitals suffer from a shortage of medical staff and beds, and power outages, and in urgent need of support.

According to the Central Committee of Sudan Doctors, an independent and pro-democracy organisation, “the total number of civilian deaths was 56”; more than half of them were in Khartoum and its environs, while “dozens” of soldiers and paramilitary forces died. In addition, some 600 people were injured during the 24-hour period. hour of confrontation.

These developments come at a time when hundreds of students are still stuck in the Comboni educational facility in Khartoum since Saturday due to the fighting. The Sudanese Red Crescent said that the release of 450 students trapped in the Kamboni educational facility is currently a risk.

In a related context, Human Rights Watch and the International Committee of the Red Cross called on the warring parties to protect Sudanese civilians and abide by international humanitarian law, while 56 civilians were killed and 600 injured as a result of the fighting throughout Sudan.

Human Rights Watch urged that “measures be taken to protect civilians and civilian objects from harm” in Sudan, and noted that the military leaders “once again show complete disregard for the hopes and rights of the Sudanese people.” She said that “Sudan’s international partners, who have failed to hold military leaders accountable for abuses since the coup and its aftermath, must take an immediate and concrete response.”

The organization also called on the UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting and publicly call on all forces to protect civilians. The Sudanese Red Crescent expressed its readiness to evacuate civilians from the airport neighborhood if security conditions were met.

While the army and the “Rapid Support” forces exchanged accusations that each of them launched an attack on the headquarters of the other, in addition to allegations of controlling each other’s sites, while the army described the “Rapid Support” forces as “rebel”, in a dispute that began with the latter moving its forces towards several Cities without permission from the leadership of the military establishment.

Meanwhile, the clashes culminated months of escalating tensions between the army and its partner, the Rapid Support Forces, which turned into an adversary as a result of disagreements over the process of integrating the support forces into the army.​​​​​​​​

In a related context, an emergency meeting of the Arab League Council, on Sunday, called for an immediate cessation of fighting in Sudan, offering mediation to resolve the crisis that erupted as a result of armed clashes between the army and the paramilitary “Quick Support” forces.

This came in a closing statement of the meeting held at the headquarters of the Arab League, at the level of permanent delegates, in Cairo, at the invitation of Egypt and Saudi Arabia, in the wake of escalating clashes in Sudan between the army and the “rapid support” forces.

According to the statement, the meeting called for “the immediate cessation of all armed clashes in Sudan, and a speedy return to the peaceful path to resolving the crisis.” He affirmed “the university’s readiness to make every effort to help Sudan end the crisis in a sustainable manner and in line with the interests of the Sudanese people.”

The meeting called on “Arab ambassadors in Khartoum to take action to contribute to restoring stability in the country by contacting all parties.” The Council expressed “deep regret for the casualties during the recent clashes, and offered sincere condolences to the families of the victims and the entire Sudanese people.”

He also warned of “the seriousness of the violent escalation taking place in the Republic of Sudan, and the accompanying serious repercussions, the scope of which is difficult to determine internally and regionally.”

While the meeting called on the Arab League Council to “remain in a state of permanent meeting to follow up developments in the situation in Sudan.”

Also, earlier on Sunday, the Sudanese Central Committee of Doctors (non-governmental) announced that the clashes between the army and the “rapid support” organization had claimed the lives of 56 civilians and injured 595 others, including soldiers.
