The Rapid Support Forces considered that they had achieved “sweeping victories”, following two days of clashes with the Sudanese army.
A statement issued by the office of the official spokesman of the Rapid Support Forces said, in the early hours of Monday morning, that it took control of several military and civilian headquarters during Sunday’s battles.
The statement indicated that the Rapid Support Forces took control of the headquarters of the ground forces, the tower of the Ministry of Defense, and the Republican Palace and its surroundings.
It also confirmed “the liberation of the heads of the military divisions in the states of Darfur and the seizure of their equipment and military vehicles”, “the seizure of more than two hundred tanks”, “the downing of 3 combat aircraft”, “the capture and joining of dozens of senior officers and non-commissioned officers of the coup forces”, and ” A number of members of the defunct regime (People’s Defense, People’s Security, Mujahideen) were captured, and they are being counted.
The statement said: “We have one choice, which is victory and removing this nightmare that perches on the chest of our people.”
The clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces broke out on Saturday, due to a dispute over the integration of the Rapid Support Forces into the armed forces as part of a transitional phase towards civilian rule.
