Sudhakaran said that Pinarayi Vijayan had said during the UDF regime that the party workers would not pay extra tax. Sudhakaran said that the government implemented the tax hike with stubbornness and the state was paralyzed by the stubbornness of the Chief Minister.
‘The Chief Minister has absolute contempt for the struggle, the media and public agitations. As Pinarayi Vijayan said in 2000, not a single person should pay increased taxes. If action is taken against defaulters, Congress will protect them. The government and party members are collecting from the people for corruption and luxury,’ K. Sudhakaran alleged.
Sudhakaran said in a press conference that despite the protests, the Chief Minister has shown indifference without reducing even a single rupee. He said that the Chief Minister is like the queen who asked to eat cake if there is no bread.
Sudhakaran said that the local bodies have been asked to collect another thousand crores and this will affect the common people more. Therefore, Sudhakaran demanded that an all-party meeting be called as soon as possible on the tax hike.
But K. Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that he was not aware of Sudhakaran’s boycott call. He was speaking to the media in a press conference. VD said that he knows that Pinarayi Vijayan said that he should not pay the increased taxes when he was party secretary and he did not express his opinion that he should not pay additional taxes. Satheesan said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had responded the other day that the central government’s policies have put Kerala in crisis. This is why the government had to increase taxes, he said in a press conference. He added that the opposition is struggling without seeing this.
The protests are being led by those who gave the power to the companies to fix the oil price. Pinarayi Vijayan said that it is strange that BJP has come with Congress against fuel cess.
‘Congress has squeezed the people by appeasing the oil companies. The current situation is that the central government is trying to defeat it and the UDF is trying to protect it. People understand all this. They won’t take it for granted.
Some are spreading the word that Kerala is in debt and is fiscally corrupt. Debt was 38.51 percent of GDP in 2020-21. It has come down to 37.01 percent in 2021-22. It will be 36.38 percent in 2022-23,’ said Pinarayi Vijayan.
The government is moving ahead with social security, economic security and infrastructure development. Congress and BJP are trying to close their eyes to it. The Chief Minister had said that people will reject this.
