Cairo, June 21 / WAM / Egypt announced that the Suez Canal achieved the highest annual financial revenue of $9.4 billion during 2022-2023.

Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority, said that the navigation statistics in the canal during the fiscal year 2022/2023 set new and unprecedented records throughout the history of the canal, achieving the highest rate of transit of 25,887 ships, the highest annual net tonnage for a fiscal year of 1.5 billion tons, and the highest annual revenue. Mali amounted to $ 9.4 billion, surpassing all previously recorded figures.

This came in a press conference held by the Suez Canal Authority today to review the most prominent achievements and statistics related to navigation during the fiscal year and shed light on developments in the development of the canal’s navigational course.

The head of the authority said that the Suez Canal has come a long way towards implementing its ambitious strategy to develop the canal’s navigational course, to achieve in a few years what has not been achieved before throughout the history of the canal, through the implementation of a series of giant development projects starting from the new Suez Canal project, passing through the sector development project. The southern sector, which is being implemented, will increase the capacity of the canal by six ships, and increase the navigational safety factor in that sector by 28 percent.

The head of the authority stated that the implementation rates of the southern sector development project are progressing at a steady pace according to the specified schedule, as the completion rate of the double canal project in the Lesser Bitter Lakes reached 50.3 percent of the project’s work volume, with dredging rates amounting to 32 million cubic meters of sand saturated with water, while The completion rate of the expansion and deepening project reached 92.4 percent of the work volume of the project of widening and deepening the canal, with a total dredging volume of 16.6 million cubic meters of sand saturated with water.
