A Sumatran tiger that attacked two residents in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, was successfully captured by a joint team from the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of Gunung Leuser National Park (TNGL) and the Ministry of Forestry and Environment (KLHK).

The arrest was made after two days of searching. A joint team from BKSDA and TNGL officers and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, assisted by the local government and residents, followed the tiger’s trail and set an iron trap baited with a goat.

The video of installing the iron cage and goat bait was shared by Roben Simelias via his account on Facebook. The Sumatran tiger was captured on Saturday (16/3/2024) afternoon at around 17.30 WIB in the V Damar Hitam Hamlet area, Mekar Makmur Village, Sei Lepan District, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, by being shot with anesthesia.

The tiger caught was female and had a collar or GPS buckle tag on its neck. It is strongly suspected that the tiger is a tiger released by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on March 6 2024.

Next, the captured tiger was temporarily taken to the Medan BKSDA Center. Previously on Monday (11/3/2024), a resident named Jeremia Peranda Ginting was attacked by a Sumatran tiger while harvesting chilies in their farming area and suffered injuries to the head and neck and had to undergo 82 stitches.

After a few days, the Sumatran tiger again attacked residents in the name of Muhammad Ikhwan Sembiring. At that time he was harvesting palm fruit and suffered lacerations on both legs. (Z-2)
