Deportivo Independiente Medellín fell 2-0 with Internacional de Brasil, for the fifth date of group E in the Copa Sudamericana 2022, the powerful failed to live up to the task and ended up sentencing its elimination against a practical “colorado” team, which had sacrifice and efficacy.
With a complicated prelude due to the weather at the Beira Río stadium in Porto Alegre, with the danger of a cyclone included, it was the Antioquia team that suffered a storm of soccer and goals against. It was not until the 20th minute that Internacional was able to go ahead on the scoreboard through Edenilson, who reached the second post free after an incursion into David’s left sector, the ‘colorado’ winger took full advantage of the advantages he was giving the DIM in defense.
At minute 23, the game was stopped due to physical discomfort from Andrés Mosquera Marmolejo, however, the game resumed without problems. While the DIM tried to get out of his field, the locals continued to advance on the powerful arch. About minute 28, Vladimir Hernández approached the DIM, but his shot went wide.
Medellin lived some distressing moments, averaging the initial stage. The team from Antioquia tried to come out playing, but the pressure from the Brazilians was more efficient. About minute 43, Luciano Pons with a mid-range shot, generated the third approach of the DIM, but the goalkeeper Daniel managed to save the ball. The Colombians had one more play in injury time after a free kick, but the local goalkeeper controlled without problems.
In the complementary stage, Felipe Pardo entered instead of Yulián Gómez in the DIM, who came out with a better face to face the match, but Internacional defended well and continued attacking on the wings. At minute 13, the second goal for Internacional came, again through Edenilson, with a great shot from the left leg to the upper corner of the right hand of goalkeeper Marmolejo. The captain took advantage of a weak rejection by Víctor Moreno.
A minute later, Luciano Pons had the discount for DIM, but Daniel managed to stop the Argentine’s shot without problems, who took advantage of a filtered pass from Pardo. At minute 17, Internacional did not stop their attacks and through Mauricio they finished off from the right sector and the ball went wide.
Julio Comesaña decided on minute 21 to make two variants; Bryan Castrillón and Andrés Ricaurte entered, instead of Juan Carlos Díaz and Vladimir Hernández. Internacional responded with four changes, refreshing the payroll and maintaining the advantage in the result.
Medellín tried with more impetus than precision, but could not prevail in the match. At minute 38, Comesaña made two more changes, position by position, entering Juan Manuel Cuesta and Diber Cambindo, instead of Jean Pineda and Luciano Pons.
At minute 39, Estevao demanded Marmolejo, who blocked the shot with his right hand, the rebound was taken by Edenilson from the left, who once again showed off the ‘1’ of DIM. On minute 43, Estevao again from mid-range approached Inter, but the ball passed close to the powerful goal. The final minutes were with a clear domination of the premises, against a submitted Medellín, without ideas and resigned to a new elimination on the continental level.
The Antioqueño side will have to concentrate on the league final quarterfinals and finish their participation in Group E in decorum, in that last match against Guaireña of Paraguay at the Hernán Ramírez Villegas de Pereira stadium, while Brazil host in Porto Alegre to October 9 of Ecuador.
