In California, after 8:30 p.m., most of the moon is obscured by Earth’s shadow and appears red. In Chile, a lunar eclipse also began at 11 p.m., and after half an hour, the entire moon turned completely dark. This total lunar eclipse lasts about 84 minutes and is best viewed from Bolivia in the southern hemisphere.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the moon is in line with the earth and the sun, and the moon turns blood red after light is refracted by the earth’s atmosphere. Since the moon also travels to the closest distance to the earth this time, the moon will appear larger than usual, so it can also be called a “super blood moon”.
It is reported that the last total lunar eclipse occurred on May 26, 2021, which has been separated by a year. According to previous predictions by scientists, there will be two lunar eclipses in 2022, both of which are total lunar eclipses, and there is currently news that there will be two lunar eclipses in 2023, but both are partial lunar eclipses. The next time I want to see a total lunar eclipse will be three years from now, on March 14, 2025.
