The NFL and CBS Sports have made an announcement: This year’s Super Bowl will also be broadcast on Nickelodeon in a special children’s show. That means SpongeBob and Slimetime are coming to the Super Bowl. This is the first time in history that the Super Bowl will also be shown on a channel other than the main channel.

Super Bowl 58 takes place in Las Vegas on February 12, 2024 (12:40 a.m. EST) and CBS has the rights to broadcast the big event. A unique and entertaining alternate broadcast is to be created in collaboration with Nickelodeon.

Hans Schroeder, Executive Vice President of NFL Media, said, “Our previous broadcasts on Nickelodeon have been a huge success and have created a new and different way to experience an NFL game. We look forward to bringing that creativity to Super Bowl 58 and offering our fans another way to enjoy one of the world’s most beloved sporting events.”

The collaboration between CBS and Nickelodeon began four years ago and has continued to evolve. This year, for the second time, Nickelodeon will be showing a holiday game pitting the Kansas City Chiefs against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The kid-friendly broadcast on Nickelodeon features eye-catching graphics, slime-filled endzones, and even features the popular cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants between the goalposts during field goal attempts. This creative portrayal has received critical acclaim for its ability to introduce a younger age group to the basics of the game while keeping parents interested.

Previous Nickelodeon broadcasts of NFL playoff games have had solid viewership. The first broadcast of 2020, a wildcard game between the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears, averaged 2.06 million viewers. Last season’s Christmas game between the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Rams was watched by an average of 906,000 viewers.

The Nickelodeon Super Bowl broadcast will also be time-shifted to other countries such as the UK, Australia and New Zealand so that the excitement of this special children’s show can be experienced around the world.

Nickelodeon has yet to announce who will be part of the crew for this year’s games. For the past three seasons, the booth has featured Noah Eagle, NFL Today analyst Nate Burleson, and Nick star Gabrielle Nevaeh Green.

Brian Robbins, Chief Development Officer of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, said, “Combining the all-out excitement of NFL action with the creativity that can only come from Nickelodeon’s cool POV is a must-see for kids and families overall. We’re incredibly proud to be working with CBS Sports and the NFL to bring Nick’s personality and unique visual sensibility to the Super Bowl.”
