Due to a cash flow deficit, the solidarity fast-food restaurant is seeking 300,000 euros. L’après M is still waiting for subsidies to be able to continue its activity, in particular its distribution of food packages.

300,000 euros. This is the amount of the call for donations launched online by the volunteers of “L’après M”, a solidarity fast-food restaurant, located in the 14th arrondissement of Marseille due to a cash flow deficit.

“We opened this restaurant and we continue to run these mutual aid activities with 90,000 euros in cash,” explains Lila, a volunteer at “L’après M”.

“We cannot let such a project die”

“Where such projects usually start with thousands and thousands of euros, we are still waiting for subsidies from the competent institutions which can support the restoration activity,” recalls She.

And added: “Our file has been under investigation for more than a year today. We have neither a positive nor a negative response. We cannot let such a project die.”

“L’après M”, this solidarity restaurantinaugurated a year ago in the heart of the northern districts, is located in the premises of a former MCDonald’s, transformed into a place of solidarity during the first confinement due to the Covid-19 crisis.

After many heated debates and years of struggle between former employees and the multinational, the former fast-food restaurant was bought by the City of Marseille in July 2021.

Today, the establishment must face insufficient growth in turnover. Costs continue to increase. Consequence: volunteers call for help. It is the distribution of parcels which is above all threatened.

“The idea and the objective is that “L’après M”, the fast social food, makes a profit, so that we can buy food packages accordingly, depending on the families, because some families have two children, three children, five children, and the idea is really to say that everyone can eat and that the fridge is full,” says Mohammed, a volunteer at “L’après M”.

Parcel delivery is free. In total, 700 are distributed per day.
