Support Texas History: Donate to The Bullock Museum | Education & Exhibitions

by

The Bullock Texas State History Museum is seeking donations to support its exhibits and educational programs, according to a recent statement. The museum, which has welcomed over 11 million visitors, aims to preserve and share the history of Texas through immersive exhibitions and accessible learning experiences.

A key focus of the fundraising effort is the Albert and Ethel Herzstein Hall of Special Exhibitions, established in 2006 with support from the Herzstein Foundation. The hall hosts temporary exhibits alongside a permanent collection of over 700 original artifacts. The museum also highlights its award-winning education programs, including Homeschool Days and American Indian Heritage Days and a Distance Learning program.

The Herzstein family’s philanthropic impact extends beyond the Bullock Museum. In 2003, they supported the Centennial Campaign for the Houston Zoo, and in 2019 contributed to the Jane Block Children’s Zoo Maintenance Endowment. The Albert and Ethel Herzstein Gallery for Judaica opened at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, housing an vital collection of Jewish religious items. The Heritage Society also features the Albert & Ethel Herzstein Museum Gallery, currently exhibiting “Coastal Cowboys” and “UH Latino cARTographies.”

The Texas Public Policy Foundation received support from the Herzstein Foundation between 2008 and 2021. Chinquapin School, a college preparatory boarding school for underserved students, benefited from Herzstein Foundation support from 1976 to 2022. The Alley Theatre also received capital campaign gifts from the foundation between 2003 and 2022, with naming rights at the “Sculptural” level.

The Bullock Museum Foundation is also seeking higher-level support through program underwriting, corporate sponsorships, and planned giving. Donations will directly support research, artifact acquisition, and community-driven programming. The museum’s gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. To 4 p.m., with admission set at $5 for ages 6 and up.
