The Supreme Court of Brazil accepted on Monday the complaints against another 250 accused of participating in the assault on the 3 powers on January 8, when Thousands of Bolsonarists tried to overthrow President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

With this latest decision, the highest Brazilian court has already prosecuted 550 people since it began to analyze the complaints filed by the Attorney General’s Office for the coup riot that took place a week after Lula assumed the Presidency.

The magistrates of the high court plan to begin this Tuesday the virtual analysis of another block of complaints related to the assault in Brasilia on January 8which so far total 1,390.

That day, thousands of supporters of the far-right ex-president Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) invaded and destroyed the offices of the Presidency, Congress and the Supreme Court, with the intention of provoking an intervention by the Armed Forces to overthrow Lula.

The Brazilian authorities came to arrest some 2,000 people for these coup acts, although less than 300 currently remain in prison. The rest await the end of the process in freedom with precautionary measures.

The defendants face before the Justice serious crimes such as “violent abolition of the Democratic State of Law”, “coup d’état” and “illicit armed association”.

Since then, the Federal Police has opened several lines of investigation to find out the intellectual authors of the coup attempt, as well as those who financed it.

Bolsonaro, who was in the United States on January 8, where he traveled two days before the end of his term to avoid handing over the presidential sash to Lula, he is listed as being investigated for “inciting” his followers to attack democratic institutions.

The far-right leader, who governed between 2019 and 2022, testified on April 26 before the Police in this case and denied any type of responsibility for the attempted coup.

Bolsonaro, who lost his privileges on January 1, when Lula succeeded him, is being investigated in about twenty processes for abuse of power, among other charges, in cases that are being processed in ordinary Justice, the Supreme Court and in electoral courts.
