Surge in Hepatitis A Cases in Costa Rica: Latest Updates and Statistics

The health authorities of Costa Rica today warned of rising hepatitis A cases, which reached 1,435 laboratory-confirmed infections through September this year.

Data from the Ministry of Health shows that in 2022, only 118 cases were diagnosed, a difference of 1,317 patients from the previous year. In 2019, 1,584 infections were also reported.

The province of Saint Joseph reports 960 cases and the central provinces ofAlajuela and D’Heredia confirm 167 and 94 notifications respectively, while the western province of Puntarenas is the one with the fewest cases, according to the report of the 39th epidemiological week.
