This Monday, the people who went to the I Hop located next to the HEB San Patricio, north of Saltillo, were surprised that the iconic restaurant specializing in pancakes and American-style breakfasts had closed its doors.

The closure seems final. Even the blue letters that announced the name of the restaurant were already removed from the wall facing Eulalio Gutiérrez boulevard, and the signs indicating the restaurant’s hours of operation were covered on the access door. No one was inside the property, so it was not possible to obtain more information on the reason that led to its closure, just when the opposite phenomenon is occurring in Saltillo, with the opening of new restaurants.

According to Wikipedia, “The International House of Pancakes”, better known as IHop, opened its first restaurant on July 7, 1958 in Toluca Lake, California, and since then it has spread to major cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as well as in other countries.

In Saltillo, the IHop had been operating for more than ten years. In the past months, advertisements for staff had been seen in the place, a problem that many restaurants have in this city due to the high turnover that exists and the abundance of jobs available. At the moment, it was not possible to confirm if the closure is temporary or permanent, or if the franchise plans to open a new branch in another location. (The Herald of Saltillo)
